bunny ZAP !

"Utterly Incredible"

submission: bunny ZAP !
date: July 8, 2006

I have to hand it to you - this is the most original game I've ever seen on Newgrounds. It's the first webcam game I've seen here, I didn't think it was possible! How does it work?1 Does it detect colour change or something? I'm stunned.

The game was well produced too. Nice graphics (me in the background guarantees a 10) and funny sound. I played for ages just waving about like mad. I think it's be better if you had to NOT hit some things, so then you'd need to more precise in your movements. Maybe a setup test thing before the game to get the webcam positioned correctly would help.

Really though, I'm very impressed. I hope to see more. Despite the low score I think this should get Front Page. 10/10.

thanks :D
how does it works?
with the new bitmapdata class(since flash 8). Infact Its much easier than it looks
In short: you take virtual screenshots of your video object, than you compare the color value of some pixels with the pixels of the prev sceenshot. for more info, press F1 in flash>bitmap data :)

TooF Girl Problems

"Funny Teeth"

submission: TooF Girl Problems
date: July 6, 2006

This is frickin hilarious. The drawings are kinda simple but work really well, I love all the pans and things. Voice acting is as good as it gets. I just love the concept, even thought most of the jokes were lame it just cracked me up. Even the commentry at the end was funny. Awesome stuff, 10/10.

Author's Response:

Thanks a ton dude :D Yeah, the animation is as simple as it gets...you could swear your baby brother or someone retarded did it...well, then you'd be right...

Anywho, glad you thought it was funny...you guys are awesome...

The Green Blob, 2006

"Really good"

date: July 6, 2006

If people look at this as an interactive movie rather than a game, it could do well. The graphics are incredible (nicer lookin preloader might've helped). The blob animates superbly.

The game element is lacking, because if you choose wrongly you just go back a bit and choose again. But I don't think its supposed to work like a game, its like a Choose Your Own Adventure thing. Which I like a lot.

This deserves to to really well here at Newgrounds, but I'm not sure that everyone will get it. Hope they do, 10/10

Cena Quiz

"Small target audience"

submission: Cena Quiz
date: July 6, 2006

This doesn't interest me at all, I'm not sure I've heard of the guy. There's probably only a handful of people here that would like this, which'll probably result in it getting a lower score than it deserves.

It was actually a well made quiz. All very clear and user friendly. Its good that you didn't use the terrible quiz method that most people use where you go back to the start if you get a question wrong.

I got 37%ish. Hope it survivies.

3D racing

"Great 3D"

submission: 3D racing
date: July 5, 2006

I've seen a few 3d Flash games (even had a go at making one, sort of) but this acheived the effect better than most. I wouldn't have a clue where to start making something like this.

Graphically it was exellent, the level of detail on the cars and tracks was incredible. The sound wasn't too exciting but it did the job.

The game itself is fun, but doesn't control very well. I think it'd be better if it didn't try to be realistic but went for a Micro Machines style, then the slippy controls wouldn't matter so much.

Just two tracks is a let down of the game. I don't know how long a track takes to make, but if its a long time then you should try and make a faster level editor so you can quickly create a large selection of tracks. A more varied choice of cars would be nice too.

I'd highly recommend this to anyone for a quick play, but it doesn't have enough to make me want to come back for more, and that's what lets it down. But this gets a 5/5 on style alone. Nice work.

Adrift - Episode Two

"A cool series"

date: July 1, 2006

A good follow up to the last one. More happened in this one, sometimes it got a bit confusing, but I think that's a good thing because it makes it very rewatchable. It also makes me look forwards to the next one.

The start was probably my fave part, nice and violent. The scienists looked like they were turning into zombies, that reminds me of when the Beast slaughters W&H in Angel Season 4. I expect that this'll all becoem clear in later episodes.

The rest of the movie felt more like an introduction to what's to come, but its certainly got me looking forwards to more. Like you said its a bit on the short side, another scene or two might've helped the overall score.

This one had a lot of voices, which were alright, but a bit unclear sometimes, it was good that you had subtitles. There was a bit of crackling too, you should try and avoid that in future.

I love your graphics as always, a few bits could be touched up but they're mostly very good and stylistic.

Keep up the good work and I look forwards to more, 5/5.

Author's Response:

you got it exatly right! this episode was originaly going to be added on to the end of the 1st one, but due to the flashbacks it would have got more confusing. This one is defenatly much more of a explain-y episode.

As for the lack of violence i agree! episode 2 is full of it though! guns and all...

thanks!

Robot Maker

"Not bad"

submission: Robot Maker
date: June 30, 2006

Not bad, it was more than just a standard dress up. I liked the item selector, instead of just drag and drop it duplicated the items. The colour filler worked well.

The graphics could be improved quite a bit. Just keep practicing and you'll get better over time. Try and avoid filling with gradient colour, it rarely looks good, you need to learn to shade manually.

This would be much better if you could do something with your robot after creating it. If this was like a Robot Wars game it'd be awesome. Maybe you can't script someting that complex, but your cloud game shows you can make a decent enough game. Maybe you could do something like R!SE (search NG for it, its a game that lets you build a monster then make it jump).

Pretty good try, hope it survives. 3/5.

Jack French #2

"Great game, not refined enough"

submission: Jack French #2
date: June 28, 2006

I was a big fan of the first. I love games like this, Broken Sword is one of my favourites. My rating of 9 might seem high but I'm disappointed I can't stretch to a 10.

The first thing that lets this down is the bugs. I read in a comment reply that this went through a beta testing stage, but it can't have been nearly enough. I wont list all the bugs, they've all been mentioned already. But there must be at least 10 major ones, and a lot more besides.

I don't really see this as an improvement on the first one. Even the graphics, whilst there are some nice new touches, seem a bit patchier than before. But still very good and better than most submissions.

I'll get off the bad points now because I don't want this too seem like a negative review, I still really liked this game. I played it till the end which is longer than I'd play most games. The story is well written and gives the impression of deepness - I could happily play this through again to fully grasp the story.

The puzzles were usually pretty straight forwards, but there were a few that required a bit of thought. I liked the jigsaw game, that was a nice touch.

I've seem a lot of people complain about the voices but I thought they were very good. It sounded like everybody was different - if they were all different actors then that's impressive, and if it was a few actors pulling off different voices, that shows talent.

I hope you make the next part, it sounds like it might be linked in with this one which'd be cool (maybe you could link witht he 1st one too in Broken Sword 3 style). My main suggestion would be to test it more, I reckon this could've been much more succesful with a couple more weeks refining it. Still, great game, look forwards to pt.3! 5/5.

Way too short to score well, but I thought it was pretty damn funny so I hope it survives. The graphics were really good (like the guy's Dark Side shirt). Just gotta be longer! 5.

Platform game level maker

"Scored 1691"

date: June 24, 2006

Nowhere near as fun and addicitve as the likes of Kitty Canon, but still a pretty fun way to waste a few minutes. I got 1691.

The concept, stone skimming, is pretty dull. Throwing small animals would be more entertaining. But that's just my opinion.

I think the main problem with this is that it's too simple. You just time two button presses then wait. Maybe if you could do something whilst the object is bouncing it would be more fun.

But not bad, 4/5.
